What is "the Greatest Mystery" in the Bible?
Webster's definition of Mystery: Something unexplained, unknown, or kept secret. Anything or event that remains so secret or obscure as to excite curiosity.
The greatest mystery of the gospel is that there is but one God whose name is Jesus Christ. God said, "There is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me." (Isaiah 45:21). God had three manifestations for the salvation of man, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost. God himself was all of these manifestations not as a separate God or separate persons but as One God and one Person. God came down and begot himself a body which he called "Emmanuel." Emmanuel means God with us. That God with us is Jesus Christ (Matthew: 1:23, John 1:1-14, I Timothy 3:16).
Jesus Christ is God's highest name; for at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord - God. Compare Isaiah 45:23 and Philippians 2:10-11. The name of Jesus Christ is God's name for this dispensation and for the saving of man's soul. God has had many names to describe his actions to his people. The name Jesus Christ means Jehovah Saviour or one who has come to save – The Almighty. (Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah 43:10-12, Matthew 1:23, Luke 2:11, Revelation 1:8).
Jesus is the Comforter, Jesus is the Light, Jesus is the first and last, Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus is the Judge, Jesus is the Shepherd, Jesus is the way, Jesus is the door, Jesus is the Life, Jesus is the Redeemer, Jesus is the Lamb, Jesus is the Creator, Jesus is the Holy One, Jesus is the Rock, Jesus is the Word, Jesus is Lord, Jesus is God, Jesus is the Saviour, Jesus is the Father, Jesus is the Son, Jesus is the Holy Ghost, and Jesus is the Great "I am,” all wrapped up in one God. (Isaiah 43:10-13, Mark 14:62 "I am,” John 8:58 "I am"). No man can have all of these attributes and not be God the Father. Jesus said, no man cometh unto the Father but by me (John 14:6-11).
This is the "Mystery" that the world has rejected, neither can they see because it is hidden from the wise and the prudent and given unto babes (Luke 10:21).
**NOTE** Search the scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life (John 5:39).
** They profess that they know God but in works they deny him (works-baptism-Titus 1:16)
** Don’t be deceived by the philosophy of men (Colossians 2:8-10).
God will open your understanding to his mystery if you are willing to believe and have an open heart to the understanding of his Word. God walked and talked to the apostles and he had to open their understanding of who he was based on their knowledge of the Old Testament.
